Technology Enthusiast

A Bit of History

I was born and raised in a small town in Indiana. After acquiring my first computer around the age of ten, I discovered that I loved tinkering. Mowing yards in the summer and shoveling snow in the winter enabled me to regularly purchase new equipment for my computer, rebuilding it several times a year. I loved building that thing and troubleshooting it almost more than I loved using it.

Prior to moving into the tech space, I worked many years as a field engineer, climbing my way from a technician to site supervisor. Activities involved managing a team of like-minded field engineers in a warranty and re-engineering capacity. Looking for consistent anomalies or defects in work, I was tasked with troubleshooting, documenting, and submitting redesign requests for congruent failures.

Where I'm at Now

I am currently employed as a Junior Security Analyst and Application Developer for America's oldest welcoming service, Welcome Wagon. We are an advertisement agency that aims to connect new movers to local businesses in their area. My day-to-day activities range from data aggregation and managment to product design, implementation and testing, while continuing to focuse on best security practices.

I create CRM and Sales Management System integration applications and build out APIs. Additionally, I train users on email best practices and social engineering mitigation, deploy and monitor endpoint security systems, administer identity and access management for the entire corporation, and utilize vulnerability scanning tools to assist in keeping our network safe.

Unlike many, the troubleshooting does not stop when I punch out. Around my home, everything is automated. I use raspberry pi's and APIs to build media servers and retro gaming consoles; My phone doubles as a remote to just about anything in my house. I often use my free time (whatever that is), to learn new technologies. Over the past of couple years, I have self-learned multiple programming languages, networking fundamentals, security penetration testing tools, and many other concepts. This entire website is built with Python, Django, HTML, CSS, and Javascript. It is hosted on an Amazon EC2 instance running on Linux and utilizing an Nginx/Gunicorn server.

Where I'm Going

I currently hold a B.S. in Information Technology with a major in Cybersecurity and a minor in Project Management. At present, I am applying to grad schools, looking to focus in a Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) or a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree.

Career-wise, I am looking for a company and culture that allows me to strive and learn daily. I would like to associate myself with an organization that I can grow with; One that not only encourages, but forges a catalyst for curiosity and sparks engagement.

Accomplishments

Regarding formal education, I have obtained dual associate's degrees in both Information Technology Project Management and Electrical Engineering. I hold a Bachelor's in Information Technology Cybersecurity, and professional certificates as both an "Cybersecurity Advanced Technical Certification" and a "Project Management Associate".

Certifications I currently hold are CompTIA's CySA+, Security+, Network+, and Project+, and a white-belt certification in lean/six-sigma. Future certifications I am looking to obtain are Cloud+, CASP+ and eventually the CISSP.
